Bye bye Tories!
They've stopped following me because I am critical of their warmongering. But it's not me that's changed. They were quite happy to stuff their pockets with Russian and Chinese cash. I never have.
I seem to be losing some Tory followers great and small.
Let me tell you something before you go...
A long time ago, I pointed out that the green agenda was only possible because of Chinese economic and industrial dynamism.
Meanwhile, the likes of Gummer and Goldsmith were organising the greenification of your party. David Cameron was hugging huskies. You made your logo into a tree. You formed a consensus with the Labour Party and Lib Dems.
Without Chinese economic and industrial growth, recycling would not have been possible. There was no domestic market for old plastic.
"Wow, look at China", your party said. "We need to invest in wind farms and solar panels, so that we can lead this Green Industrial Revolution", agreed the government. China continued dumping solar, forcing the closure of manufacturing in the US & Europe.
And nobody else produced the resources to build the turbines.
The UK had no 'green industrial revolution'. It only "led" the world in policymaking. And as I pointed out, the only effects of this were the continued offshoring of both heavy and green manufacturing, and the creation of a market for China (and indeed Russian gas in the EU).
Your election slogan was 'vote blue go green'. Your party scraped a win and formed what it proudly called the 'greenest government ever'. Your policies paid people ten times the market rate for electricity, for putting Chinese solar panels on their roofs.
You copied the policies of the previous government, merely changing their names, from "green new deal" to "green deal". And still there was no 'green industrial revolution'. And prices carried on upwards.
Now that some of you have cottoned on to the utter cluster-F that your party has created, you are startled by the oligarchs, officials and interests that have established homes and businesses here, and the extent to which we have made ourselves dependent on them.
You even stood against alternatives, that could rescue your own policies from ruinous failure... Fracking, nuclear, expansion of O&G exploration. Instead, you stole Labour's price-control policy ideas! And your Ministers posed for photo-ops in front of coal plant demolitions.
So now you beat your chests. You rediscover your dormant patriotism. You demand that "we" assert ourselves against "aggression" from the East.
No matter that half your party has been stuffing its pockets with their taste. No matter that it was all happening in plain sight.
I think your militarism is even more dangerously toxic than Westminster's promise of a 'green industrial revolution'. It will fail, too.
I think the enemy is closer to home.
I think your desire for war is nothing an attempt to save yourselves.
So go. Bye bye. Good riddance.
The green Tories are salivating for war because their agenda has caused absolute chaos -- which they have profited from.
Henry Smith: Net zero efforts can protect the UK against Putin’s greatest weapon
Russia’s massive build-up on the Ukrainian border is a threat to European stability, as I recently saw for myself on a visit to Kyiv and frontline in Donetsk. NATO must deter the threat of invasion, however, longer term we and our allies must also reduce Putin’s capabilities to harm us, including the exploitation of energy.
Even on his own terms, he is completely mistaken... "Russia’s massive build-up on the Ukrainian border is a threat to European stability". No, it is the green agenda that undermined "European stability", such as it ever was.
Europe made itself dependent on Russian energy. We in the UK depended more on gas from Qatar -- a lovely regime. We're also so worried about bad regimes, we're besties with Saudi Arabia too.
The pompous green tory prick has no moral compass.
Ditto, he says, "Rises in the cost of gas leads to rises in the cost of food. All of this adds up to a cost of living crisis".
He is trying to blame Russia for the policies he continues to favour and seeks to advance.
If Russia is a threat, *he* is just as much our enemy.
He is a dangerous enemy:
"Cheap, homegrown renewables and new nuclear energy can provide much of the long-term solution, especially once we develop storage capacity to overcome intermittency."
Until then, what? What if it never arrives? What if it arrives but is never cheaper?
He is betting on a unicorn to save us from Russia, when he is the psychopathic lunatic bent on our destruction.
@HenrySmithUK , you are a dangerous idiot.
'Oh, Ben, stop defending Putin!'
I've been arguing for 20 years that the green agenda will weaken our industry & economy, and will undermine our democracy to create a failed state that externalises the domestic crises of legitimacy of its own making. I'm not going to stop now.
The green agenda has always depended on China and Russia.
There could have been no EU/UK progress towards "decarbonisation" or other green targets without increasing dependence on Russia and China or other regimes.
Green tories are epic idiots.
All on the same team.
